What are fixed costs?

Fixed costs are mandatory monthly expenses that fall due regardless of consumption. Four items dominate in Switzerland: rent (BFS structural survey), health insurance premiums (Federal Office of Public Health), taxes (Federal Tax Administration) and AHV / pension fund contributions. The amounts differ sharply by canton — the median premium in Geneva is nearly double that of Appenzell Innerrhoden, and the tax burden in Zug is only a fraction of that in Neuchâtel. LohnLens combines these sources and shows what remains of your gross salary after fixed costs.
